Askrigg Railway Station is a beautifully preserved piece of Yorkshire Dales history, famously known to millions as the fictional "Darrowby Station" in the original BBC television adaptation of All Creatures Great and Small. Nestled in Wensleydale at Low Abbotside, just west of Askrigg village, the station opened in 1877 as a vital stop along the iconic Wensleydale Railway, which connected Northallerton with Garsdale. The line served as a lifeline for the rural community, transporting local passengers, stone from nearby quarries, and the valley’s famous Wensleydale cheese to the rest of Britain.
