Terms of use
Last updated 2026-08-31
Plain terms for a small community project, run by one person. Using Kosmopoli means accepting them.
What this is
Kosmopoli lets people make a page for a real town or village, upload old photographs of it, and annotate one another's photographs. It is free and provided as-is, with no guarantee of availability.
What you upload
You keep the copyright in your photographs. Uploading grants us only what is needed to run the archive: to store the image, resize it, and show it to whoever the town's visibility setting allows.
You must have the right to upload it. Do not upload photographs you neither own nor have permission to share, and do not upload something that identifies a living person in a way that could harm them. If you are unsure, do not upload it.
Keep your originals. This is an archive, not a backup — do not let it be your only copy.
Towns and moderation
A town has administrators, not an owner. Whoever creates it becomes the first administrator and can grant the role to others. A town can never be left with no administrator.
Administrators review submissions before publication and can reject one with a reason. That is a judgement about what belongs in a local archive, not about you.
One person may administer at most three towns — enough for the village you live in and the ones your grandparents came from, and few enough that nobody claims a region.
Behaviour
Be accurate and be kind. This works because people who remember a place correct each other patiently. Harassment, impersonation, and knowingly false claims about people in photographs are grounds for removal without notice.
Liability and changes
The site is provided without warranty. We are not liable for lost data.
These terms may change, and the site may be discontinued. If it is ever shut down we will give notice and a way to export what you contributed.
